This series of photos has been taken in the Daliangshan (Great Liangshan Mountains) area of Sichuan, China since 2003, documenting the survival and life of ethnic Yi women. The Yi people is an ancient ethnic group in China, directly transitioned from a slave society to a socialist society. In their society with a deeply rooted concept of son preference, women are the main labor force in the family, not only taking care of all household chores, but also undertaking agricultural work in the fields.
