Ethnic Yi people in China leaped from the Slavery Society to the Socialist Society in one giant step after the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949. They have retained much of their traditional way of life and salient ethnic cultural features. However, changes have been undergoing in recent years when many young people went out to work as migrant workers, making increasing contacts with outside world. Their outfits, appearances, manners and custom are becoming more more fashionable and more like those of Han people.
